project life, week 7

frankly, it could have been titled: i had this done last sunday (ok, wednesday because i was waiting for the cool becky higgins journaling cards) but am too lazy to take pictures and post. but, i thought that might be a tad too long. so anyhoo, here we go. week 7.

the full spread. pretty basic. oh except i made a small flipper. i liked the look of the cupcake pick with the journaling card, but wanted  packaging from stuff the girls got for heart day. we'll get to that later.

see that 4x6 week card? isn't it fabulous? i love graph paper (i added the week 7 and black date strip on the bottom) and couldn't resist it. there is one for every month. don't 't you want them all? then head over and visit ms. valerie brown at live. click. scrapbook.  ok, onward. monday (top right) is a thank you from my 5 year old birthday twin. the cupcakes were made for valentines day tuesday and for bowling monday night (the girls on our 2 teams brought cupcakes for everyone). you may remember that i got a cool container for my birthday that i wanted to make a terrarium with. well, there it is. with all the layers, it turned out to be much shallower than i expected (and frankly i bought a LOT of plants) so i had to do a lot more planting (life's rough huh ;) i had most of the containers, only bought one more, the cool apothecary jar in the small, middle pic. lastly, a pic that i hope is familiar to many of you since i don't want to be the only one with what seems to be a continuous mess in my kitchen.

flowers! from mr. fast-lane! for valentines! it's been a while since i've gotten flowers. pre-go-go-gadget-girls, aka when we had disposable income, i used to buy fresh flowers every week. didn't realize how much i miss them.  the pink background is the paper the flowers were wrapped in. the bird. i wish he were mine. he was the most delicate shade of dove grey. absolutely gorgeous. i saw him in passing while getting stuff at the pet store and was struck. didn't think  mr. fast-lane would go for another bird so simply mentioned im passing a day or two later. surprisingly, mr. fast-lane said that was fine with him. i'm sure you can figure out the rest of the story. so now i am on the hunt for another little birdy. oh, oh, do you see the cupcake pick? see the journaling card? isn't it fantastic? it's another freebie from valerie. you can get them here. i did get the re-do cards, but they are still smallish. even so, i love them. expect to see a lot of them!

and here's the 'flippy part' flipped. i had part of a disassembled page protector left (goodness, i keep everything) that i filled, closed and taped down with smashbook tape. the red paper is the other side of the pink paper the flowers were wrapped in. the 'stuff' in the pockets is the packaging from magic socks and face cloths the go-go-gadget-girls got for valentines day. they love all that magic grow stuff.  ooo, do you see it? another valerie journaling card! told ya i loved 'em. the cats. together. you may not realize what a minor miracle that is people. smudge (the cream cat) hates magda (black cat lest you have forgotten) because all magda wants to do is play, and smudge is oooooooold. 17 years old. her play is all gone. so anyway, minor miracle. also, please ignore the hideous carpeting. it is older than smudge. waaaaay older. probably around my age. it was here when we moved in and we haven't gotten around to replacing it. kinda has to do with that whole disposable income thing. not a whole lot of that with 3 growing go-go-gadget girls. lastly, a really bad picture of my pee wee friends. tiny little birds that are cute as dickens.

thanks for sticking with it. i said a lot this week. now i'm off to work on week 8! ttfn

winner, winner, chicken dinner!

yes, it is true. i. am. a. winner. ok, well at least to my friend, um, acquaintance, erm, woman whose blog i frequent, Tifani. and well, only because i entered a give-a-way. but hey, i won something! wanna see?

pretty neat huh? i'm so excited to break it all out and play. i'm most excited about the scissors, because not only are they cool looking, i, uh, can't seem to find my big green and orange fiskateer scissors. anyway, i'm sure i'll make something out of my loot here soon, but in the meantime, go over and visit Tifani at her blog Ink Blots, you'll be glad you did.

happy wednesday

well it should be, but i have a sick child. go-go-gadget-girl 1 is complaining of a tummy ache. one thing you should know: i. hate. vomit. i have a very strict rule, nobody ever vomits alone in my presence. i just can't handle it. yuck. if you're here looking for project life, my apologies. i've got it all laid out in my head, but i am waiting for some lovely Becky Higgins goodness to hit my doorstep this afternoon to get my week from my head to my book. i got photopocket pages G and a couple of the journaling cards. i really want photopockets B but they may not be available until april (if then) so i'm really vacillating on getting the big variety pack 1. i'm not sure if i'd use all the different styles, but then again, maybe if i had them i would. i just don't know, and i already have so much 'stash' that i just hate to add to it. ack, i hate being so indecisive! enjoy your day, and i would love to see your project life in progress, so leave me a comment so i can check them out! ttfn.

project life, week 6

it was my birthday this week, and the girls got their progress reports,  ergo,  a few basic inserts

not really a full spread pic because of the inserts. that's a progess report.

there i am. i'm blowing out the candles on my cupcakes at, wait for it, the bowling alley. yup, i'm in a league. myself and some friends from work decided to join on a lark. we'll never go pro, but we have a great time! anyway, we make a big to-do out of everyone's birthday and the whole alley joins in singing. good times. that's go-go-gadget girl 1 standing in the corner. mr. fast-lane's idea. she is currently 10 going on 17 and is starting to see how far she can push boundaries. i guess she pushed too far. some plants for a terrarium i am going to make once i get the container i bought for my birthday. the bottle caps are from an aMAZing mexican dinner we had on my birthday. little hole in the wall. totally authentic, even down to the spanish channel blaring on the tv in the corner. LOVED it!

2 inserts, this is the middle of them...another progress report, a touching birthday card, and a party hat one of the go-go-gadget girls made. still need to do some journaling there by the hat. pretty empty now.

the back of the insert, a portrait of moi that go-go-gadget girl 2a made. that's a pencil in my hair. yes, i usually have one stuck in there - although i don't wear a bun on the top of my head, it's a messy pony/bun in the back.
and finally: art prep at work (a never ending job) go-go-gadget girl 1 reading with her best friends; pixel the pocket pal, and the go-go-gadget girls making dinner on sunday night.

gotta run, ttfn!

project life, week 5

this bodes....i am behind the times. good news? only in posting.....i've been too swamped (or lazy) to take pics of my project life these last couple weeks. so, if you're interested, here we go!

here's the full spread. the fun thing about this week, is that go-go-gadget girl 2a (that's her in the first pic on the left) took all the pictures this week! i think it's fun to see what someone else's perspective of life looks like, and what's better than an 8 year olds?

left side: 1st off, sorry for the crummy, out of focus photo. ok, again, there is go-go-gadget girl 2a, and those are her feet. no it's not warm enough for flip-flops here. first small pic is her twin, go-go-gadget girl 2b enjoying a chocolate-cherry blizzard; the first sign of spring, a primrose making it's way back; and edemame. last one is of go-go-gadget girl 2a & 2b's floor which is mostly clean.

and the right: some creative play by go-go-gadget girl 2a; the kitten discovered running water; the whole family went to a movie friday; mommy had a girls night out at the movies saturday; my card reader finally went belly up (it was OLD) and this was from the replacement; mr. fast-lanes arm (no idea why) and go-go-gadget girl 2a's pet "ocean"

love her pics. less than thrilled with some of my "embellishing" but that's the way the cookie crumbles. i got it done. love how she loves blue!

ttfn.

2.10.2012

it's my birthday!

yup, big fat 46 today. love it. proud of my age, and have no problem saying it!

2.07.2012

ack, i'm in the weeds

i didn't do a bloody thing (besides take pictures) with project life until sunday. super bowl sunday. not really the best of combos. i realize there is no deadline to getting a week done, but having done PL for the past two years, i have found that if i get behind on a week, that it's hard for ME to go back and work on it. i also find it difficult to move on unless it's done so it's a slippery slope for me. i need to stop. breathe. and get to work. it's not that i am the queen of embellishments or journaling, but in this situation i have to constantly remind myself that it's ok to just put in the pictures and jot some words - get it done so i can move forward and get off that slippery slope.

project life, week 4

i have some time, so let's do week 4 too!

for some reason, i didn't really take too many pictures last week. uh oh, i hope that's not a sign. anyway, many of the pictures i took were vertical - not normal for me, so i had a real hard time laying out my week (i may have one a week or so, and then i usually just put them in horizontally, it's no biggie to me). in the end i mangled cut up a page protector that was all verticals and used it as a mini page. couldn't do as an insert, because i just didn't have the pictures or stuff from the week to make another full size page. it's gonna be funky looking in the book because i am going to have a blank page behind it...see that on the right? i'll probably fill the pockets with paper at some point.

"four" is made from ancient rub ons from me & my big ideas - gonna be lots of ancient stuff used this year, i have, ahem, quite a stash i'm trying to deplete. the reading jot on go-go-gadget girl 2b's picture was made with my vintage (read: old, orange, from the 70's) label maker. family get together - seriously bad pic but oh well. mr. fast-lanes, um, buttock region and the lovely bruise he got  when he hit the ice on his bike! the kitten discovered the hamster - it is hilarious to watch her watch the hamster who seems totally unfazed by the mighty predator.

"
go-go-gadget girl 2a and her bird. oldest go-go-gadget girl at her first concert. oh my did she look SO grown up when she walked out with her cello...i actually got misty eyed.

go-go-gadget girl 2b with funny hair thanks to a fleece blanket, static electricity, and mommy!

that's it. while it's not a thrilling week, and i didn't have a lot of pictures or filler, it is fini!

my kids are killing me...oh and project life

i love my go-go-gadget girls, and they really are pretty good, but mornings are just killing me recently. oldest go-go-gadget (10 now) simply will not. get. out. of. bed. i've tried everything to get her up, from waking her up, 15, 30, 60 minutes before the normal time to - i'm ashamed to say - yelling at her. and the playing...the go-go-gadget girls't aren't allowed electronics before school, but how does one stop creative play? i wouldn't mind the play if everything were done. but it's not.  constantly telling them to get dressed, brush your hair, brush your teeth, etc. makes me feel like such a harpy. they all know what needs to be done, but keeping them on task has become part of the routine it seems. i could really use some concrete suggestions if you've got any.

ok. enough whining. on with something nicer. project life. week three is below. i had it done on time, just didn't get around to taking pics in a timely manner! again, a reminder: kit remains, regular scrapper - if you're looking for something fancy, sorry, that's not me, but i could point you to some fantastic ones: elle's studio, just about everything, learn with jenny, nichol magourik, & mish mash for starts. ok, on with the show.

you may notice, it's mainly about snow. snow is a big deal here were we live....we don't get it too often, and when we do, it's not usually a lot. this time, we got a lot. schools were closed (extending our year by 3 days, yuck), and while i am a good snow driver (many years driving to s. dakota in the winter) i really had no place to go to justify the driving. we hunkered down and played for the most part. now that it's over i wish i had included pictures of the indoor stuff like games and baking. oh well, i'll throw those in the junk journal.

i wrote on monday's picture with a slick writer and the birthday and here birdie birdie pictures with a making memories opaque pen i got on clearance for $2. i had no idea if it would be what i wanted when i bought it, but it is exactly what i wanted....it is replacing my horribly defective sharpie fine white paint marker. lots of animal pictures...my found kitty, buddy, who is very scared and only likes me decided it would be a good time to come in; a brief blurb about the hummingbirds fighting for the feeders; and the kitten. i don't know how many times she ran into that slider trying to get the birds (i put seed out for them)

ok, ok, you midwesterners don't laugh at the amount of snow, that was just one day at different intervals. admittedly, we did only get about a foot total. i LOVE the picture of mr. fast-lane and #1 go-go-gadget girl, his expression is priceless. a friend and her parents stopped by on their x-country outing. ice cream, enough said! oh netflix how i love thee. between netflix and the postal service, we had new movies to watch all week! the go-go-gadget girls wanted to do crafts, so i let them have carte blanche in the craft room (still pretty proud of myself about that) the title (whose placement bugs the bejezus out of me, but those puppys stuck like nobody's business and i couldn't move them) is ancient thickers. a few day time highs from the week....i think the pic was a regular 2x2 layout from my printer option and not a diptic.

alright. week 3 fini.

1.26.2012

project life...week two

hello, thanks for stopping by. just a reminder, i'm a regular gal with regular pages; sometimes i wish i were as creative and clever as many of the others doing PL, but i've mostly come to terms with my regularness and i really like doing a PL album.  i forgot to mention that i run my weeks monday-sunday. i broke up the weekend the first year (2010) and figured out i wanted to remember the week as we lived it, starting with school/work on monday and ending with sunday night. this means that jan. 1 hasn't been memorialized yet since it was on a sunday. i plan on doing a little insert that i can pop in the front of the book later on. also, no title page, it'll come later as well. ok on with the show.

the full magilla. i run the week across the 2 pages - so on the top we have monday, tuesday, wednesday. the bottom is thursday, friday, saturday, sunday.

1.25.2012

zoom zoom!

my car - ok, it's a mom car, a minivan - is in the shop for a checkup and i am driving mr. fastlane's car. i rarely drive it, not sure why, but when i do i have so much fun! no, it's nothing fancy or sporty, it a newer simple middle of the line honda civic, but....it's a manual. there is something about shifting that makes it seem faster and zippier. maybe i love it because it harkens back to my youth when i drove a stick, and it makes me feel young again - even with three go-go-gadget girls sitting in the back!

1.24.2012

bandwagon you say?

yeah, not really. this will be my third year doing project life, and i'm still excited by it. amazing. it's fabulous that so many people have decided to join the revolution this year - i personally love to look at all the different pages and probably spend waaay to much time doing so! anyway,  i've found that this type of memory keeping is much more me than traditional scrapbook pages....i love the lifeness (is that a word?) of it and including stuff. it's almost like a laid out junk/smash journal (i just started a new one of those as well), and it really resonates with me. i am a regular gal with a regular family and a regular life, so my pages are pretty basic; not a lot of extras are added though i love all that, and secretly wish i had that flair - but that's ok because plain or fancy, it is still holds memories. right now i am using leftovers from the past 2 kits i've used (i have no idea which ones they are at this point) and some freebies i've gleaned from the interweb - God love all those talented people out there that can do what i can't! i would love to win a kit (turquoise please!) but i just may break down and buy stuff later on.
ok, enough.
with some trepidation, i give you:

project life 2012, week 1

you'll have to forgive the quality of the pics, it's quite overcast today so not a lot of light, plus this was a kind of spur of the moment decision - and kind of do it now or loose your nerve - so i probably didn't choose the optimal place to take the pics....hopefully i'll get better!

random journaling cards from the 2 old kits, and while i'm not in love with my handwriting (or even my writing skills) i like that i (mostly) journal by hand. my daughter's new glasses. watching 'shaun the sheep' - have you seen it? it's a spin off from the wallace and gromit movies. hilarious!

a new pet. a cute kitten. a silly picture of my fingers that makes me smile, and a very unhappy tween. oh i am not looking forward to the full on teen years.

a simple insert with the printout of my best bowling game ever (you can kind of see the pic i took of the scoreboard over there to the left)

and the other side, a note from the safety patrol at school saying that my 5th grader will be switching to the morning shift starting february 1st. yuck.

week one, fini.
